Maharaja Express – The winner of World’s Leading Luxury Train Award 2012
The latest in the fleet of Indian luxury trains, Maharajas’ Express, has added a new feather in its grand cap by winning the World’s Leading Luxury Train Award at the coveted World Travel Awards 2012. The other nominees in this category were Venice Simplon Orient Express, Hiram Bingham, The Blue Train, Eastern & Orient Express and the Indian Maharaja Deccan Odyssey among others.
The Grand Finale ceremony was hosted at The Oberoi, Gurgaon, New Delhi Capital Region (NCR) on 12th December, 2012. The Maharajas’ train has been bestowed with several prestigious awards in the past such as the ‘Best Luxury Train’ by CNBC Travel in 2012 and the 1st Runner Up in the Reader’s Choice Award for Conde Nast Traveler in 2011.
Maharajas’ Express is a pan-India luxury train offering 5 different journeys across some of the most popular destinations in India. Launched in March 2010, the luxury train is operated by the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The luxury tourist train is a virtual five star hotel on wheels and come equipped with state of the art facilities such as pneumatic hydraulic suspension system, central air conditioned cabins, LCD television, electronic safety deposit lockers, CCTV cameras and online water filtration system. The train comprises of 14 cabins and has a total passenger capacity of 88 people.
